I learned that the world is a cruel, unfair, and sometimes unforgiving place, but it is important for each person to try to make a difference by being accepting and understanding. An example of this is the way people treat Gretchen without knowing her whole story.
I rediscovered how rude high school students can really be too. High school is such an important part of becoming who you are as a person and some people think that by judging others they will become a better person. Little do those people know, they are only making themselves appear as inconsiderate jerks. If they took the time to get to know people, they might think twice about what they say to them.
I was surprised that Cal blamed Gretchen for his detention when he was the one doing the talking, she did not ask him a question or force him to talk to her. He is blaming her because she is "weird" and does not want to take responsibility for his own actions.
I am very curious as to where Cal and Gretchen's relationship will go. They went from avoiding each other in the hallways, to having conversations and actually understanding where the other person is coming from. They've showed each other that they care, even if they didn't mean to do that.
Again, I was disturbed by Cal's choice to blame Gretchen for his detention. Like I said earlier, she did not force him to talk to her. She was not holding him at gun point. Cal needs to take responsibility for his actions and not blame the "weird" kids.
I am confused about who Cal really likes, and honestly I think he might be a little confused as well. He is so set on Lola, but mainly because she is popular and "perfect", but she has a boyfriend and he really does not know her that well. Gretchen on the other hand is someone that Cal could really connect with on a personal level, but I think he is scared about his friends finding out.
I am interested and intrigued by Cal and Gretchen's friendship and I really want to see how things turn out for the two of them, and what other people will think about Cal and the "weird girl".
